Built for Endurance: The Story Behind Our Endure Range

Endurance gear has a fairly demanding job.

It needs to be comfortable enough for kilometre after kilometre, practical when you're tired and working against the clock, tough enough to handle sweat, water and dirt—and simple enough that you're not fighting with your tack when you should be concentrating on your horse.

That thinking is behind our MPH Saddlery Endure range.

The Endure Bridle and Endure Breastplate aren't simply Biothane versions of traditional tack. They've been designed specifically around the way endurance and trail riders actually use their gear.

The Endure Bridle: Clip On. Clip Off. Keep Moving.

One of the simplest features of the Endure Bridle is also one of the most useful: the removable bridle section.

Rather than removing your horse's entire headgear every time you need the bit out, the bridle section is designed to clip on and clip off the halter.

At a vet check, when strapping, when offering your horse food and water, or simply when you've finished a long day on the trail, the bit and bridle section can be quickly removed while the halter stays comfortably in place. No swapping between a halter and bridle. No completely untacking your horse's head. Just unclip the bridle section and you're done.

For endurance riders, where efficiency matters and horses need every opportunity to eat, drink and recover, it's a small design feature that makes a surprisingly big difference.

For trail riders, it's just as practical. Stop for lunch, give your horse a break from the bit, or lead them around camp without needing to carry and change between separate pieces of headgear.

Endurance equipment shouldn't be complicated for the sake of being clever.

Our approach with the Endure range has been to make gear that works with the routine endurance riders already have.

The Endure Breastplate: Designed with VGIH in Mind

The Endure Breastplate takes the same practical approach.

In high-performance endurance competition using Vet Gate Into Hold (VGIH) vetting, time matters. Riders and strappers need to be able to cool and present the horse efficiently, and removing the saddle quickly gives the strapping team unrestricted access to the horse.

That's why we've designed the Endure Breastplate to allow for quick saddle removal during strapping. Instead of the breastplate becoming another piece of equipment that needs to be completely removed and reorganised, the design makes the transition from riding to strapping as straightforward as possible.

It's a feature born from the realities of endurance competition: when you come into a vet gate after a demanding leg, the last thing you want is unnecessarily complicated tack.

Made for Sweat, Water, Mud—and the Wash Afterwards

Of course, endurance tack doesn't stay clean for very long. A single ride can involve sweat, dust, mud, creek crossings, buckets of strapping water and whatever else the Australian countryside decides to throw at you.

That's another reason we've chosen Biothane for the Endure range.

When the ride is finished, there's no lengthy leather-cleaning routine waiting for you. Most everyday grime can simply be rinsed or wiped away. For heavier dirt, a little mild soapy water and a soft sponge or brush will generally have your gear looking fresh again. Rinse it, hang it up to air dry and it's ready for the next adventure. And because Biothane doesn't require the regular oiling and conditioning associated with leather tack, there's considerably less maintenance between rides.

Not Just for Competition Day

While the Endure range has been designed with endurance competition in mind, the same features make it particularly well suited to training, trail riding and long-distance adventures.

Being able to quickly remove the bridle section is handy whenever you're stopping to let your horse eat or drink. Easy-clean materials make sense when you're riding through water, dust and mud. And uncomplicated, functional tack is just as welcome 20 kilometres into a Sunday trail ride as it is coming into a vet gate during competition.

Ultimately, that's what we wanted from the Endure range. Practical gear for people who actually ride. Gear that's comfortable out on track, quick and uncomplicated when you get back to base, easy to clean when the day is finished—and ready to do it all again tomorrow.
